Brazil: exports of pork increases amid falling prices

Exports of unprocessed pork from Brazil for the first ten months of 2009 increased by 7% on last year’s level and amounted to 449 217 tons.

However, the volume still 11% below the record 501 934 tons, registered in 2005

Despite the increase, the profit of the sector this year has suffered greatly, as the average prices on FOB decreased by 30% in dollar terms to U.S. $ 2 055 per ton, and the rate of the real, has soared.

Average prices were unable to recover in a year, they grew by only 3% from January to October, up 2 150 dollars, which is 36% below the peak last September — 3 361 per ton.
