Japan: in September, beef consumption has risen

Japan consumed 63 845 tonnes of beef in September, up 3% more than last year.

Analysts note that this growth was the result of increasing consumption of imported beef, 7% on last year’s level, they amounted to 34 918 tonnes.

This contributed to the restoration of stable sales of imported beef in retail, coupled with a stable imports, after falling consumption in August.

Stocks chilled imported products in September were 29% below last year’s figure and amounted to 9 880 tonnes, reflecting a cautious market operators, in spite of high demand.

In contrast, stocks of frozen products increased by 7% to 64 956 tonnes, mainly due to lower demand from the catering and manufacturing sector.
